Gifts from Felines

One of my cats (I don’t know which one) brought me a gift.  It’s a lizard.  I have no idea what kind of lizard.  It was dead when I found it on the kitchen floor.  The cats seem to enjoy bringing live lizards, salamanders, skinks, and small rodents into the house, releasing them, and then chasing them to death.  They rarely have a mark on them when I find their little carcasses.

This is a new species for them.  I’ve never seen a lizard quite like this before.  Anyone?  Beuhler?  Click to embiggify.

  1. I only recognize half of it, as that is all Monkey ever brings me.

    HA HA!

That is hilarious! I love making up new words and I see you do too. Just another one of those things we can’t tell Jeff…..

  3. Lizards are few and far between ’round here, so not much help there.

At least your feline gifts show some variety – offerings for me vary only in location. Otherwise, it’s the same – cat hurl every time.

  4. Sean and I searched, and we think it’s a Green Anole (anolis carolensis).

  5. A friend was home sick in bed when her husband opened the door to let the cat in. It promptly ran upstairs to “Mommy” and dropped its “present on her covers. A live snake! She got out of bed pretty darn quick! Didn’t feel any better just had the need to be elsewhere while the snake was identified. Turned out to be a garter snake.

All I ever got (when I had cats allowed outdoors) were the headless remains of shrews lined up on the back step. Two or three a night sometimes. That was after they ate the first one and threw up all over the house. (Poison saliva glands in the head didn’t agree with their delicate stomachs.)

  6. There was the time that Merlin brought the very alive bird in. And then let it go for us only to discover that this bird could still fly very well. It took us 30 minutes with all doors open to coax it out the front door….

  7. Funny you should mention that, Jean. He did the same thing to me again this morning. It’s almost like he read your comment, and decided that it was such a great idea he’d do it again!
