W vs BO – The Marines Speak

The video below shows the enormous difference in how our troops view the two Commanders-in-Chief that they’ve served under during the past several months.  Pay particular attention to the newscaster’s comments at the very end of the video … “tepid” indeed!

Thanks to MoK for the link to this video!

Another interesting opinion of what the future holds for this nation…

Six years ago I wrote a book called Uncle Sam’s Plantation. I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it.

I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas — a poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism.

I talked about government programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS), Emergency Assistance to Needy Families with Children (EANF), Section 8 Housing, and Food Stamps.

A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned government programs, all initially set into motion in the 1960’s, that were going to lift the nation’s poor out of poverty.

A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mind sets from “How do I take care of myself?” to “What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?”

Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems — the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others.

The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools, and broken black families.

Through God’s grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is.

I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996, passed by a Republican Congress and signed 50 percent.

I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor black communities and replacing it with wealth-producing American capitalism.

But, incredibly, we are going in the opposite direction.

Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism.

Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have said, “Thank you, Suh.”

Now, instead of thinking about what creative things need to be done to serve customers . . .  they are thinking about what they have to tell Massah in order to get their cash.

There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president. And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to move onto the plantation.

In an op-ed on the opinion page of the Washington Post, Mr. Obama is clear that the goal of his trillion dollar spending plan is much more than short term economic stimulus.

“This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending — it’s a strategy for America’s long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, and education.”

Perhaps more incredibly, Obama seems to think that government taking over an economy is a new idea. Or that massive growth in government can take place “with unprecedented transparency and accountability.”

Yes, sir, we heard it from Jimmy Carter when he created the Department of Energy, the Synfuels Corporation, and the Department of Education.

Or how about the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 — The War on Poverty — which President Johnson said “…does not merely expand old programs or improve what is already being done. It charts a new course. It strikes at the causes, not just the consequences of poverty.”

Trillions of dollars later, black poverty is the same. But black families are not, with triple the incidence of single-parent homes and out-of-wedlock births.

It’s not complicated. Americans can accept Barack Obama’s invitation to move onto the plantation. Or they can choose personal responsibility and freedom.

Does anyone really need to think about what the choice should be?

There are two letters below.  One is from General Motors President Troy Clarke to all employees and all of their suppliers.

The other is from the President of a supplier to the auto industry.  His letter is an awesome letter that tells it like it is.

Every manager in Detroit and ALL politicians should read this along with the union members.

This is one of the greatest responses to the requests for bailout money I have seen thus far.  As a supplier for the Big 3, this man received a letter from the President of GM North America requesting support for the bailout program.  His response is classic and has to make you proud of a local guy who tells it like it is.

Dear Employees & Suppliers,

Congress and the current Administration will soon determine whether to provide immediate support to the domestic auto industry to help it through one of the most difficult economic times in our nation’s history.  Your elected officials must hear from all of us now on why this support is critical to our continuing the progress we began prior to the global financial crisis.

As an employee or supplier, you have a lot at stake and continue to be one of our most effective and passionate voices.  I know GM can count on you to have your voice heard.

Thank you for your urgent action and ongoing support.

mrmonopoly.gifI received this in my email this morning.  I tried checking it on snopes.com and about.com, but neither site had anything to either confirm or deny it’s authenticity.  It sounds entirely plausible; I’m hoping it’s true!

WWII Monopoly

Starting in 1941, an increasing number of British airmen found themselves as the involuntary guests of the Third Reich, and the Crown was casting about for ways and means to facilitate their escape. Now obviously, one of the most helpful aids to that end is a useful and accurate map, one showing not only where stuff was, but also showing the locations of ‘safe houses’ where a POW on-the-lam could go for food and shelter.

Paper maps had some real drawbacks — they make a lot of noise when you open and fold them, they wear out rapidly, and if they get wet, they turn into mush.

Someone in MI-5 (similar to America’s OSS ) got the idea of printing escape maps on silk. It’s durable, can be scrunched-up into tiny wads, and unfolded as many times as needed, and makes no noise whatsoever.

At that time, there was only one manufacturer in Great Britain that had perfected the technology of printing on silk, and that was John Waddington, Ltd. When approached by the government, the firm was only too happy to do its bit for the war effort.

By pure coincidence, Waddington was also the UK Licensee for the popular American board game, Monopoly. As it happened, ‘games and pastimes’ was a category of item qualified for insertion into ‘CARE packages’, dispatched by the International Red Cross to prisoners of war.

Under the strictest of secrecy, in a securely guarded and inaccessible old workshop on the grounds of Waddington’s, a group of sworn-to-secrecy employees began mass-producing escape maps, keyed to each region of Germany or Italy where Allied POW camps were regional system). When processed, these maps could be folded into such tiny dots that they would actually fit inside a Monopoly playing piece. As long as they were at it, the clever workmen at Waddington’s also managed to add:

  • A playing token, containing a small magnetic compass
  • A two-part metal file that could easily be screwed together
  • Useful amounts of genuine high-denomination German, Italian, and French currency, hidden within the piles of  Monopoly money!

British and American air crews were advised, before taking off on their first mission, how to identify a ‘rigged’ Monopoly set — by means of a tiny red dot, one cleverly rigged to look like an ordinary printing glitch, located in the corner of the Free Parking square.

Of  the estimated 35,000 Allied POWS who successfully escaped, an estimated one-third were aided in their flight by the rigged Monopoly sets. Everyone who did so was sworn to secrecy indefinitely, since the British Government might want to use this highly successful ruse in still another, future war. The story wasn’t de-classified until 2007, when the surviving craftsmen from Waddington’s, as well as the firm itself, were finally honored in a public ceremony.

Soldier’s Dog is Welcomed Home by Soldier’s Parents

warhorse-026Jean is back in Germany after her 15-month tour in Iraq.  She sent me the following press release, along with the picture here and this note:

“This is my troop’s dog.  Kindi was 4/2 SCR’s “force protection” dog.  Attached is a pic of him.  I think it’s so wonderful that he got to go to CPT Szmyt’s parents’ house.  I know that it was a very hard process.  We worked on it forever.”

Washington, DC, November 3Operation Baghdad Pups is a SPCA International (www.SPCA.com) initiative created to provide medical care, clearance and transport for animals U.S. soldiers have come to love during deployment in the Middle East. Yesterday, a U.S. soldier’s dog arrived in Connecticut after a long journey from Iraq. Wayne and Susan Szmyt welcomed their son’s dog, Kindi, to their Trumball home this weekend. Kindi arrived in the U.S. at Dulles International Airport Saturday afternoon along with 3 other soldiers’ dogs thanks to SPCA International’s Operation Baghdad Pups program. The Szmyt’s son, Derek, will be returning home from Iraq soon to be reunited with Kindi.

“I know firsthand how much these animals mean to the troops:  a furry bundle that sleeps in a lap when a soldier is overcome by exhaustion; a friend that a soldier can cradle when overcome with grief for a fallen or injured comrade; a buddy that is a playful companion when a soldier is overwhelmed with homesickness,” explains Susan Szmyt.

SPCA International is a non-profit animal welfare organization that has been helping U.S. troops rescue their pets since September 2007.  Operation Baghdad Pups program is run entirely on generous donations from the public. Susan and Wayne Szmyt request donations be made at www.SPCA.com to help more soldiers, like their son, save the animals they love.

Hundreds of U.S. soldiers in the Middle East befriend animals in the war zone to help themselves cope with the hardship and terror they face every day. These dogs and cats become their lifeline – saving them from deep depression and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The military refuses to help or formally recognize the lifeline these animals give to our mentally wounded soldiers. Veterans returned from Iraq are committing suicide at twice the rate of average Americans.  The dogs and cats befriended by our troops rescued by Operation Baghdad Pups are providing proven pet therapy to soldiers who may otherwise suffer from PTSD and deep depression.

The arrival of Kindi is one of the success stories of OBP. Let us continue our support for them so that they can rescue more dogs and help more soldiers like Derek Smzyt and Gwen Beberg. Kudos to everyone who made the effort in making this heartwarming story known.

I received the following letter from a friend who is in the real estate appraisal business in Asheville, NC.  I hope all of my readers will take the time to look at what it says, and respond by printing the letter that I’ve linked and sending it on to Mr. Ridenour.

My apologies if you’ve already received this from someone else.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is calling the Senate back for a lame duck session on November 17 to pass a bill that will lock up millions of additional acres of land, threaten private property rights, restrict access to land for energy exploration, and threaten the BLM’s long-standing multiple use management philosophy.

The bill would create a National Heritage Area system, tying all previously-approved and future National Heritage Areas together, establishing de facto federal zoning under the guise of protecting America’s cultural, natural and recreational resources.

It would also codify the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS), permanently locking up millions of acres of land administered by the BLM, including Wild and Scenic Rivers, national monuments, wilderness study areas, National Scenic Trails and National Historic Trails and other conservation areas.  Once established, NLCS could easily be expanded beyond these areas.

BLM land has historically been reserved for “multiple uses,” including for agriculture, recreation, mining, timber harvest and other uses.  The NLCS would threaten this long-standing  philosophy by placing conservation above traditional uses.  And the NLCS’s reach could be almost limitless as it specifies that land be managed “in a manner that protects the values for which the components of the system were designated.”  The use of such an overly-broad term as “values” has in the past led to special protection for “viewscapes,” “sound scapes” and even “smell scapes.” (emphasis mine – MG)

The provision thus has enormous implications for farmers, miners, foresters, ranchers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Below is a coalition letter that was written by our friends at Americans for Tax Reform.  I strongly encourage you to sign onto it and return it to me right away.  Just reply to this email and indicate precisely how you’d like to be listed (name, title and affiliation).  I’ll then send it on to Americans for Tax Reform.

OUR TIME IS VERY SHORT, SO I’D BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU’D SEND ME YOUR RESPONSE BY NOVEMBER 4.  Please feel forward this to others in your network.  We need as many organizational signers as possible.

This is extremely important and we have an extraordinary, limited-time opportunity to make a difference.

Thank you so much for your kind consideration.

Get Out and Vote!

'Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

" On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi"
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!
