Last week, my sister and my daughter’s fiancee went with me to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to see my daughter graduate from Army Basic Training. We were on the road for 4 hours when my daughter called to let me know that she would not, in fact, be graduating (she failed her final PT test – missed it by six sit-ups). She did get a 12-hour pass the day before graduation, so we at least got to visit for a while. She will re-take the PT test again today. Keep your fingers crossed that she passes this time!
Here are a few pictures. Since my sister was the photographer, she isn’t in any of the pics. She’s good that way.

The Reunion – Don’t they look happy to see each other!
A trip to Wally World for odds & ends that she can’t buy on base.
Leave it to my sister to photograph me from my good side.

Hi Mommy. Just thought I’d say that i love every one of theses pictures and I’m glad you came to Fort Lost in the Woods to be with me… You’re right though, Aunt Robyn must think she’s pretty slick with that camara.

I met someone who’d come all the way from NC to see their daughter graduate. They did not find out that she failed her last PT test until they arrived at FLW(graduated in April 06). I always thought that my hubby was kidding when he said that new graduates are failing PT tests. That is sad! Either make trainees’ do more PT or give them the time to do PT on their own.
I am glad that your daughter was able to pass her PT test.

Hey! My husband is in basic training at fort leonard wood right now. He is allowed to use his cell phone but only once a week and only for 5-10 min. I think its a wonderful idea bc befor he received it we were only able to talk about 3 min. I am praying that he passes his pt test. Was she given a graduation ceremony at all or did they send her on to AIT? And how long was she held back? Please write me back at charmin201@yahoo.com

I found this blog entry by accident…I was doing a google search on the 229th MI battalion.
In any case, my husband is a SSG in Army Intel, and I wanted to mention that it’s not a good idea to post your daughter’s photos on the ‘net if she’s going to be in Intelligence. I would LOVE to post our photos, but DH says that our enemies are out looking for this type of stuff, so the Intel folks have to be very very careful. This would especially hold true if your daughter is going to be an interrogator…

JoAnne,
Thanks for pointing that out – I never would have thought about it. I’ve removed the photos as you suggested, and I’ll think things through a little more in the future!

I also found you by mistake! My daughter just graduated from Leonard Wood. Had a great time, loved the obstacle courses, hated the soaking wet nights in the woods! I agree, Sunday phone calls were very hard sometimes. So hard to listen to an unset child from so far away. She was honored by being asked to narrate both the reception and graduation, it was so exciting. Headed for Presidio to study Arabic (got on the plane sick as a dog, but that’s the Army way!) then on to intell training. Scary in this day and age but we are so proud of her accomplishments! God bless all the soldiers and the families who are their foundation.

Heading to FLW this week, solo, no family, no wife, no children just me. It’s good to see all the love people have and share. I run a community website currently being moderated by some1 while I’m away. Hope to gain a better appreciation for military living. be well and thank you for reading my thought.

I was searching about Army PT testing and found your blog. My boyfriend is at Basic right now (projected to graduate on the 16th) and we still havent heard if he passed or not. We are to fly out on wednesday to Fort Jackson, SC but we are trying to figure out if they will call if they dont pass or even if they do pass. If theres anyway you can help us with ANY information about the final PT testing, PLEASE DO. Thank you.
I am also in the military and congratulate your daughter for passing her pt. It is hard to pass, but time permits for us to get through. Congrats to your daughter for sticking in there.
